Description
Manju Padme 39.5° (2018) is an original watercolor painting on 100% cotton rag paper centered on the image of a lotus in bloom—an enduring symbol of purity, compassion, and wisdom. The title draws from the sacred mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, often translated as “the jewel in the lotus.” In Buddhist tradition, the phrase joins compassion (the jewel) with wisdom (the lotus), expressing the transformation of the ordinary mind into a clear and awakened one.
The lotus blossom is especially meaningful because it rises unblemished from muddy waters, symbolizing spiritual purity emerging from the difficulties of life. The syllables of the mantra are also associated with virtues that purify body, speech, and mind: Om – generosity, Ma – ethics, Ni – patience, Pad – diligence, Me – concentration, Hum – wisdom.Through soft atmospheric color and the luminous bloom at the center of the composition, this painting reflects that union of serenity, resilience, and inner clarity.
